About this Service
At Kennesaw Mountain and National Battlefield facilities, self-leveling concrete overlay levels visitor centers, maintenance buildings and restroom floors to create safe, even surfaces suitable for protective coatings or tile. This service fits park facilities that face drainage, elevation and seasonal access constraints.
Surface prep stresses drainage and profile checks because rocky terrain and elevation changes influence slab moisture and runoff. Preparatory steps include diamond grinding, degreasing, and targeted crack repair before pouring an overlay — commonly between 1/8" and 1" per pass depending on the chosen product. Estimates name the overlay product, pour thickness, coverage, and cure windows. When exterior exposure or high moisture risk exists, the scope documents required primers or moisture mitigation measures.
Work is typically scheduled in off-season or low-visitor periods to limit disruption. Overlays address surface flatness and minor defects but are not a substitute for repairing undermined slabs or poor subgrade drainage. The project concludes with a flatness verification and written confirmation that the surface meets the specified readiness criteria for the next finish.
