Questions
How It Works
How long does a polished concrete floor last?
A correctly densified and sealed polished floor typically lasts decades with routine damp mopping. The densifier hardens the surface at a chemical level, so there is no topcoat to peel or reapply. Longevity depends on the grit sequence used and whether the densifier step was completed properly.
Can an existing slab be polished, or does it need to be new concrete?
Existing slabs can be polished as long as they are structurally sound. Cracks and spalling are repaired at the coarse-grit stage. Very soft or heavily contaminated concrete may need additional prep passes, which the installer will note in the written estimate after assessing the slab.
What happens if the densifier step is skipped?
Without densification, the surface stays porous and begins shedding fine dust within months of use. The floor will also scratch more easily and absorb stains faster. Skipping this step is the most common reason polished concrete floors underperform, it cannot be corrected without re-grinding.
Does Marietta’s humidity affect the polishing process?
High humidity slows the densifier’s reaction time and can affect how the penetrating sealer cures. The installer accounts for Cobb County’s seasonal conditions when scheduling and will not apply sealer if surface moisture readings are outside the acceptable range.
How do I maintain a polished concrete floor?
Routine damp mopping with a pH-neutral cleaner is all that is needed. No wax, no topcoat reapplication. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar or citrus-based products will etch the surface over time. The penetrating sealer applied at the end of the job handles everyday staining without a surface film.
What sheen level should I choose for a home floor?
Satin finish is the most common residential choice, it shows the concrete’s character without the upkeep demands of a high-gloss surface. High-gloss suits showrooms and open-plan areas with low foot traffic. The sheen level is written into the estimate before work starts, so there are no surprises.
