Questions
How It Works
Can a crack be repaired without removing the existing coating?
Usually not. The existing coating around the crack is typically debonded or contaminated. The installer removes it in the repair zone, routes the crack, fills it and feathers the repair so the new coating bonds cleanly to a sound surface.
What happens if a crack is left unrepaired before coating?
The coating bridges the crack but doesn’t fill it. As the slab shifts with temperature, the crack reflects through the finish, often within one season. Repairing it at that point means stripping the coating, routing the crack and starting over, which costs significantly more than repairing it first.
How long does the repair compound need to cure before coating?
It depends on the product and ambient humidity. Georgia’s humid summers extend cure windows for moisture-sensitive compounds. The installer records the specific compound and its cure time in your written estimate so the coating is never applied too early.
My slab has spalling, does that mean there is a moisture problem?
Spalling in older Cobb County slabs often signals past moisture intrusion, but not always. The installer checks for active moisture before selecting a repair compound, since applying a moisture-sensitive product to a damp slab causes the repair to fail.
Will the repaired area be visible under the finished coating?
A properly filled and ground repair blends under a full coating system. Decorative finishes like flake blends conceal repair lines well. The installer fills the void flush, grinds the surface level and applies primer before the base coat, so the repair does not read through the finish.
Do I get documentation of what repair compound was used?
Yes. The written estimate lists the repair compound, its cure time and the prep steps completed. You keep that record after the job is done, which is useful if the area needs to be revisited or if a warranty question arises.
