Concrete Resurfacing Questions

Every question we get asked about concrete resurfacing, answered straight.

Questions

How It Works

How do I know if my slab can be resurfaced rather than replaced?

If the concrete is structurally sound, no heaving, no deep structural cracks, surface damage like pitting, staining and spalling is typically resurfaceable. The installer assesses the slab before any work is quoted and will flag replacement if the base is compromised.

What happens if I delay fixing a pitted or cracked slab?

Surface cracks let water in. In Marietta’s climate, that moisture expands and contracts seasonally, widening cracks and undermining the slab’s base over time. A resurfaceable slab today can become a replacement job in a few seasons if left untreated.

How long does the resurfaced floor need to cure before I can use it?

Cure times depend on the coating system and ambient humidity. Polyaspartic topcoats typically allow light foot traffic within 24 hours; epoxy systems may need 48-72 hours. Cobb County’s humid summers can extend cure windows, and the installer accounts for that in scheduling.

Will the new surface match the rest of my concrete?

An overlay changes the appearance of the resurfaced area. The installer can discuss finish options, plain, polished or coated, that bring the treated section in line with adjacent surfaces. All finish choices are listed in the written estimate before work begins.

What is included in the written estimate?

The estimate lists every material by product type, the applied layer thickness, prep steps (grinding, degreasing, crack repair) and expected cure times. Nothing is added on site without your approval.

Can resurfacing be done on outdoor slabs like driveways and patios?

Yes. Driveways and patios are common candidates. Outdoor applications use UV-stable polyaspartic topcoats that handle Georgia’s sun exposure and seasonal temperature swings without yellowing or delaminating.
