Pool Deck Resurfacing Questions

Every question we get asked about pool deck resurfacing, answered straight.

Questions

How It Works

How long does the coating take to cure before we can use the pool area?

Full hardness typically takes 24-72 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Marietta’s summer humidity can extend that window. The installer schedules the job around current conditions and confirms cure completion at the closing inspection before handing the deck back to you.

What happens if we skip resurfacing and leave the cracks as they are?

Unsealed cracks let water penetrate the slab. Freeze-thaw cycles and chlorine saturation widen them each season. Spalling spreads, the surface becomes increasingly uneven, and a slick wet deck raises the risk of a slip injury. Repair costs grow the longer the surface is left untreated.

Will the coating handle chlorine and pool chemicals?

Yes. The topcoat specified for pool decks is formulated to resist chlorine splash and chemical exposure. The coating type and its chemical resistance rating are listed in the written estimate so you can confirm the spec before approving the job.

Can the coating be applied over an existing painted or coated deck?

It depends on what is already on the slab. Loose or peeling coatings must be removed by grinding before a new system is applied. The installer assesses the existing surface during the estimate visit and notes any removal work required in the itemized quote.

What aggregate options are available for slip resistance?

Aggregate type, grit size and broadcast density are selected to meet wet-zone traction requirements. The specific aggregate and layer thickness are listed in the written estimate. The installer can walk you through the options before you approve the job.

Is a permit required to resurface a pool deck in Marietta?

A coating application to an existing slab does not typically require a permit in Marietta. If structural repairs to the slab itself are needed, that changes the scope. The installer will flag any permit requirements in the estimate before work begins.
